Introduction to Tony Dello

Tony Dello is a former Division 1 baseball coach for St. Mary’s College (Moraga, CA), Northern Illinois University (Dekalb, Illinois) and James Madison University (Harrisburg, VA). While Tony was the hitting coach at Northern Illinois University the team led the Midwestern Collegiate Conference with a .323 batting average and established six team records. With Tony the team at James Madison University finished first in hitting in the Colonial Conference (.319 average) and 11th in the country in stolen bases.

Coach Dello was also successful at the junior college level. As the hitting coach for McHenry County College the 1996 team won the conference and regional championships. They finished with a 40-15 record just one game from the Junior College World Series. McHenry County College’s final ranking was 5th in the country. The team had a batting average of .318 and were ranked in the top ten all year as a team. While Tony coached the Glen Ellyn Jam in the Illinois Summer Collegiate League in 1996 the team earned a bronze medal in the Prairie State Games.

Coach Dello has served as the lead instructor for the Chicago White Sox Baseball Camps in Chicago. Coach Dello has conducted camps throughout the United States including as far as Alaska. He has also served as a writer for Collegiate Baseball and Baseball Parent Magazines where he wrote articles covering various hitting topics. Tony also served as Director of Youth Instruction for Arizona State University under head coach Pat Murphy.

Tony spent the start of the 1999 season in professional baseball working for the Milwaukee Brewers. Dello finished the 1999 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks joining their support staff. In 1999 the Diamondbacks won the Western Division Title and made the first round of the playoffs. Tony has just completed his 5th season with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
